Getting back into the exercise thing

As I’ve gotten older one of the things that has kinda let go is exercise.

As a result certain things in my body have also started to let go, including the old bitch tits but i digress.

I remember back into my twenties when I was weight obsessed. Surely it was part of gay culture, the need to be constantly seen as attractive and wanted. insert some freudian daddy issues and we are well on the way to discussing the reasons why you could find me at the clubs week in week out.

In my first marriage I yoyo’d a bit with my weight but generally was incredibly healthy. Yes, i had health on my side and really came into my own as an adult for the first time experiencing life as we often do when you are young, but the main thing that I have come to reflect on from fifteen years ago was i had by default, healthy habits.

My most healthy me was after meeting husband number one, for a period of two years.

It wasn’t his doing entirely, but merely a combination of circumstance and lifestyle that gave me confidence and good health.

Being young, in love and highly optimistic is great for ones health.

After a year of dating we had decided to move to North Queensland to try something different. It was a career change for both of us, but more importantly it was a lifestyle change.

Being out of the city and surrounded by nature and with a freedom of spirit allows you to really explore your natural surroundings. We spent each and every weekend hiking, at the beach or exploring a new and exotic location in search of new experience.

Being somewhere that constantly has a warm temperature will allow you to do that, but more importantly our mindset was there. This was all new. We needed to see it all.

The best comparison in my mind was like when someone fresh from college goes on a gap year to explore the world. Everything is existing for the first time in their mind. You say yes to each new adventure, make new friends and are constantly on the move being active and enjoying life before returning to the “reality” of western responsibilities.

One the of the biggest impacts on my exercise regime in Queensland was not having a car. The first six months I had a company car, but on changing employment lacked the usual accessory for exisiting outside of a major city.

This was the greatest blessing. I bought a bike. Walked to the shops, rode my bike on a 15km round trip everyday and burned burned burned those pesky calories. The best thing was I enjoyed it.

Thats the thing when exercise becomes part of your lifestyle, you just do it because you have to.

After moving to a big city, finding time to exercise becomes more of a chore. but you have to lest you become unfit again.

Getting married and content doesn’t help.

So i’ve decided 2022 is the year for no excuses.

I’ve started hiking. Exercising and choosing better foods to put into my body.

I’m down 2kg without traditional dieting.

My legs hurt. But my brain feels fantastic.

looking forward to sharing the journey with you.
